The Gloriette transformed an existing 1,112-square-foot restaurant space within Covington's historic Southern Hotel into a new dining experience rooted in the character of the hotel while establishing its own distinct identity.
Greenleaf provided architectural and interior design services for the renovation, working closely with owner Lisa Condrey Ward to translate her garden-inspired vision into the finished space. The project moved on an accelerated schedule, with demolition, design, and construction completed in less than six months.
The Gloriette pairs local and French-inspired cuisine with an interior designed around the color, texture, and layered character of a garden. Materials, lighting, furnishings, and decorative elements were coordinated to create an intimate dining environment within the compact footprint. Southern Interior Solutions also supported furniture selection as part of the larger design effort.
International muralist and decorative artist Grahame Ménage was commissioned to create intricate floral artwork throughout the restaurant, including two large domed booths that serve as focal points within the dining room. Additional custom elements by project collaborators, including Union Studios and Spruce Wallpaper + Design, contribute to the layered interior and reinforce the garden-inspired concept.
The completed renovation gives The Gloriette a distinct identity within the Southern Hotel while maintaining a strong relationship to the building's historic character and established hospitality experience.
