Construction on the original Louisiana State Police Troop L Headquarters began in 1977. Nearly 50 years later, significant growth throughout the Troop L service area and major advancements in law enforcement technology created the need for a new facility designed around current public safety operations.
The new purpose-built headquarters will span more than 30,000 square feet and provide the space, resources, technology, and operational support needed for Troop L to continue serving the region. The facility is planned around both daily administrative functions and the specialized requirements of modern law enforcement.
The project extends beyond the headquarters itself. Greenleaf developed a comprehensive site master plan that coordinates demolition of most of the existing campus with a new mechanic garage, revamped helipad, on-site stormwater management, site generator, and the integration of select existing structures into the new campus plan.
Rather than treating the headquarters as an isolated building, the project considers the entire property as a coordinated public safety campus. Site circulation, support operations, infrastructure, accessibility, and long-term needs were evaluated together to create a facility capable of supporting Troop L well into the future.
Universal design principles and energy performance modeling are also incorporated into the design to improve accessibility, building performance, and long-term efficiency.
The new Troop L facility replaces a headquarters designed for a very different era of law enforcement with a campus planned around the operational, technological, and public safety needs of the department today.
